Nvidia GTX 280, SLI issues.

So, additional BFG 280 GTX H2OC arrived the other day for my main rig for some SLI greatness. Well, greatness is a bit strong a word here :)
Installed the card ok, after a bit of hassle, as water cooled PC bits isn't terribly straight forward.
Booted Vista (64 Home Premium) again nothing found. No SLI settings in Nvidia control panel. Hmmm. I'm unsure what I sohuld be expecting to see though. Never installed an SLI setup before.
Switched PC off, swapped power connectors around again etc. Rebooted Vista. Again nothing. Dammit.
I started to thing is was my PSU now, but surely not. Tagan 1300 Watt PSU with around 120A available across al 6 12v rails is more than adequate for these two cards.
Anyway, reseated the second GTX, rebooted Windows and now it's recognised. Hoorah. Well it thinks it's a standard VGA card now. Damn I'm thinking that the new card is faulty now.
Yet another reboot and now Vista reoprts a GTX 280. Nice.
I grab the latest Nvidia drivers (178.24 at this time) and install those again.
Reboot once installed and hoorah, SLI.
After doing some comparison FPS tests, I'm impressed (single GPU in Crysis Warhead 1680 x 1050 @ 16x AA was around 22 ish FPS, SLI at same settings around 35 ish FPS). So this is cool. The only really annoying thing is losing a monitor from dual view when using SLI.
Anyway, all's well until the following day, when switching the PC back on, Windows goes through the found new hardware routine again. Eh? 2nd GTX is now not in the device manager again.
Switch PC off, check card is seated correctly etc., switch back on, and now it's back and ok again. Double eh?
At the moment I'm still unsure about the stability of this, or whether I do have a faulty card. It's such a pain to RMA, yet alone when you have to de-plumb it from the water cooling.
It's also a shame that you lose dual monitor when using SLI mode. I may have to look into adding yet another graphic card to maintain dual monitor, which will create yet another challenge. I do have another spare PCIe slot, but physically trying to get a card in there may prove somewhat troublesome :)
Anyone know of any tricks to maintain dual monitor with SLI enabled?

Further to the above - Forceware 180.10 drivers now provide dual monitor with SLI. Result :)
