Free Automatic Desktop Wallpaper Changer (with dual monitor support)

Released: Automatic desktop wallpaper changer with dual monitor support.

That's right. Completely free of charge as well. Although a donation would be nice :)

Updated today to 1.2  (22nd October) fixed a 'bug' relating to tiled wallpaper. Now sets it correctly.
Updated to 1.21 (25th October). An issue with Windows close events not working all the time, thus preventing Windows from shutting down correctly. Only apparent in XP though.
Please download and overwrite your existing.

Thanks for downloading my automatic desktop wallpaper changer program.
I originally wrote this purely for my own benefit, but after pestering from my friends I've caved in and released it.

So what does it do?
Automatically changes your desktop wallpaper from a directory of images. Simple.

Well not so quite simple. There are a few features that are included:

  • Automatic Dual Monitor support - will detect dual screens and change wallpaper on both.
  • Configurable change interval
  • Resizes images larger than screen size to fit them in (and maintain aspect ratio)
  • Subdirectories also scanned for images
  • Runs in the task bar
  • Does not need installing - simply copy to a sensible place and run it.

Now even though I wouldn't exactly describe this as feature rich, it does what it says on the tin.
I very much doubt I will develop this any further than it's current iteration.

A few notes:
This does need the .net 2.0 or later library installed. Chances are you already have this on your system and don't realise it :)
Try it and see - if it crashes instantly then you may have to install the.net library.
As you don't need to install this, it still needs to sit somewhere where it can write to it's own directory. Saying that I've tested it in a few locations
including the Program Files ones and it's been fine.

I offer this wallpaper changer completely free of charge, so steer clear of anywhere trying to sell it to you.
You could loosely call this Donate'Ware. Hopefully you'll make a donation if you like the program.

Feel free to pass copies along to your friends and family.

Check the About section in the program or visit my site as mentioned at the top.

I wrote this in vb.net (.net 2 VS 2005) and fully intend on selling the source code. Price not yet decided but I'm thinking around £25.00 (UK Pounds). You can then do what you want with it.

So if you would like the Visual Basic source code for this, please follow these steps:

  • Donate £25.00 (UK Pounds Sterling) using the link on this section.
  • Send me a seperate e-mail telling me you've made a donation and would like the source code

As soon as Paypal notifies me of the donation received, I'll e-mail the source code to you.
Simple :)

Anyway, I yope you find this a useful little program.

Cheers.

Simon.

PS - Any problems please post them here.
Features and suggestions might be taken on board, bugs will certainly get looked at, and as long as I can replicate, will get fixed.
Oh and it works in Windows 7 (tested on 64 bit, should also be fine on 32).

Very nice.
Simple clean not loaded with unnecessary features.
One thing that would be useful though is the option to resize images upwards to fit the desktop.
If you can add that I will definitely contribute.
Thanks for your work.

Yup it will handle images of any size, although I haven't tested really huge ones, but I have several in the region of 6000 x 4000 and works no problem.
